Biography of Mgr Vienneau

Most Reverend Valéry Vienneau was born in Cap-Pelé, New Brunswick on October 13th, 1947. He obtained a Baccalaureate of Arts, majoring in Philosophy in 1968 and a Baccalaureate of     Education in 1971, both from the University of Moncton. He then taught in public schools in his home parish prior to pursuing Theological studies at the Dominican College in Ottawa, where he completed a Baccalaureate (1980) and a Master of Arts in Theology (1987).

Ordained priest for the Diocese of Moncton on August 29th, 1982, he exercised the following ministries:

· 1982, Associate Pastor in Shediac;

· 1982-1984, Studies in Ottawa;

· 1984-1986, Pastor at Saint-Paul-de-Kent and Adamsville;

· 1986-1989, Pastor at Saint-Ignace and Kouchibouguac;

· 1989-1990, Pastor at Sainte-Anne-de- Kent and Chaplain at the Stella Maris Hospital;

· 1990-1997, Pastor of Saint Joseph’s  parish in Shediac and at times in Pointe-du-Chêne and Chaplain at the Villa    Providence;

· 1997-1998, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Moncton and at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption in Moncton;

 · 1998-2000, Vicar General and Chaplain   of the University of Moncton and Pastor of the University parish, Notre-Dame-de-Acadie;

· 2000-2002, Vicar General, in charge   of pastoral restructuring and from  January to July 2001, administrator in the  parishes of St. Bernard’s, Holy Family, Our Lady of Mercy and in the  English speaking communities  of Dieppe and Lakeburn;

· 2002, Diocesan Administrator of Moncton, sede vacante;

· 2002-2012, Bishop of Bathurst;

· 2012-2023, Archbishop of Moncton; and

· 2023…, Archbishop Emeritus of Moncton.

 

Most Reverend Valéry Vienneau has served on several Commissions of the CCCB, including the Episcopal Commission for Social Communications, the Episcopal Commission for Canon Law and Inter-rites, the Commission for Justice and Peace and the Commission de la liturgie et des sacrements. He also served on the Permanent Council from 2013 to 2017.
