The Eucharist, source and summit of Christian life

The sacrament that unites the faithful to the sacrifice of Christ

The Eucharist, the third sacrament of Christian initiation

After Baptism and Confirmation, the Eucharist is the third sacrament of Christian initiation.

It is the mysterious centre of Christian life, because it makes present the historic sacrifice of Jesus on the cross in an unbloody manner.

As the Second Vatican Council affirms, the Eucharist is “the source and summit of the whole Christian life” (Lumen Gentium, 11).

The Heart of Christian Communion

The Liturgy of the Word

God speaks to us through the readings from the Old and New Testaments, the Gospel, the homily and the Prayers of the Faithful.

The Eucharistic Celebration

It includes the presentation of the bread and wine, their consecration, and Holy Communion.

The Role of the Priest

The priest acts in persona Christi capitis (in the person of Christ the Head), making Christ’s sacrifice present.

Preparation for First Communion

In the Archdiocese of Moncton, young people celebrate their First Communion after completing three years of catechesis. This step marks their full participation in the Eucharistic life of the Church.

Preparation process: Teaching on the meaning of the Eucharist, participation in liturgical celebrations, and spiritual accompaniment.

Family involvement: Parents are invited to support their children on this journey of faith.
