History
Established before 1755
First church: 1842
Current church: 1934
First parish priest: 1941
Pré-d’en-Haut is located west of the Memramcook Valley on the east bank of the Petitcodiac River. The parish extends from Dover to Beaumont.
This area was formerly served as a mission by the priests of Saint-Thomas Parish in Memramcook and later by the Holy Cross religious order. The first chapel, dedicated to Saint Anne, was built in Beaumont in 1842 on a small reserve granted to the Mi'kmaq. The small church in Beaumont is still used for worship occasionally.
The current church in Pré-d’en-Haut was built in 1934, even before the parish was canonically erected in 1940. Father Arcade Goguen served the mission from 1939. The first resident priest, Father Azarias Massé, arrived in 1941.
The Holy Cross Fathers established a novitiate in this parish in 1958. Later, the building housed the work of the Holy Cross House. For many years, it was a hub of Christian activity and spiritual formation. Today, the building is occupied by Teen Challenge Atlantic.
