History
Established in 1814
First church: 1898
First parish priest: 1960
This is a pretty village, formerly called Village-du-Bois and Bonhomme, overlooking the entire Memramcook Valley.
In 1814, Acadians from the Memramcook Valley and Petitcodiac settled in the highlands to found Village-du-Bois, clearing the land and engaging in agriculture and logging.
The parish was served as a mission by priests from Saint-Thomas Parish in Memramcook or Saint-Joseph College.
In 1898, a wooden church was built. At that time, the vicars from Saint-Thomas Parish in Memramcook came to hear confessions and celebrate Mass every other Sunday. However, all weddings and funerals were celebrated at the mother parish.
From 1945 onward, the bursars of Saint Joseph College regularly served the Lourdes mission.
It was only in 1960 that Lourdes ceased to be a mission and became a parish with the arrival of the founding priest and first diocesan priest to serve the parish, Father Roland Bouchard. He built a rectory next to the church.
In 1979, the parishioners had the church restored, preserving its original character. This church remains a jewel of wooden architecture.
