History
Established around 1875
First church built in 1914
First parish priest: 1954
Collette, like Rogersville, owes its development to the construction of the Intercolonial Railway, and its first settlers arrived around 1875. The name "Collette" comes from the first settler, Hosea Collette. The first settlers came from Prince Edward Island, Saint-Alexis de Matapédia, or Richibouctou. Among them were Pitre, Richard, Maillet, DesRoches, Daigle, Cormier, and Doucette. Others arrived later.
The history of this parish is closely linked to that of Rogersville and, consequently, to the life of the great Acadian patriot, Bishop Marcel-François Richard. It was he who, in 1914, had a church built in this northern part of his parish. The first Mass was celebrated on September 20, 1914, while the church was still under construction. Priests from Rogersville, as well as Trappist Fathers, served the mission at Collette.
In 1954, lightning struck the church, causing extensive damage. The church was rebuilt, with the addition of what is now the sanctuary and the basement.
On November 28, 1954, Collette became an independent parish and adopted the name Our Lady of Fatima.
