History

Established: 1847
First Church: 1847
First Parish Priest: 1847

St. Peter's Church on the South Branch of the Nicholas River was built in 1847 to serve the Irish families who had settled in the area. It was initially under the jurisdiction of Richibuctou Village Parish, then St. Anne of Kent Parish, and finally, around 1920, Rexton Parish. This community remains active, and a parish hall was built between 1950 and 1960. The recent diocesan pastoral restructuring formed the Rexton, Kouchibouguac, and South Branch Pastoral Unit.
