History

Established before 1930
First church: 1939
First parish priest: 1943

The northwest area of Moncton was located in the countryside and was called Georgetown, later becoming Parkton. A few families had settled there around the turn of the century. The people were far from the cathedral, which was their parish at the time.
By 1930, Georgetown already had 100 families. The vicars of the Cathedral served this mission. A few years later, in 1932, a school-chapel was opened. It was named Our Lady of Good Help Mission.
In July 1939, construction began on the church. On November 6 of that same year, the first Mass was celebrated for the approximately 40 families in the area.
This parish was the first founded by Bishop Norbert Robichaud, the second Archbishop of Moncton, in 1943. It was named Notre-Dame-de-Grâce in memory of the first chapel erected in Acadia by the Capuchin Fathers at La Hève on September 8, 1632.
Unfortunately, the church burned down in September 1947. For four years, Mass was celebrated in a room at the back of the rectory.
The new stone church, located on the site of the old one, is now admired by parishioners and visitors alike.
