History
Established around 1789
First church: 1826
First parish priest: 1831
Settlers from Memramcook began arriving in the area in 1789. A first chapel was built on what is now the Cap-Bimet road.
In 1826, Saint-Henri Church, the historic church of Barachois, was built. Father Antoine Gagnon, Vicar General of the Bishop of Quebec, became the first resident priest in 1830.
From 1864 to 1892, the Holy Cross Fathers served the parish.
In 1974, a new church was built, the one that currently serves as the parish church. A Pastoral Center was added in 2005; it serves as an administrative office and catechism center.
The former church, now a historical site, was entrusted to the Red Sea Historical Society. It has been transformed into a museum, performance hall, and art gallery.
