History
Established in 1805
First church in 1847
First parish priest in 1907
The first eleven families to settle in the parish of Scoudouc in 1805 came from Menoudie and Memramcook.
It wasn't until 42 years later, in 1847, that the first church in Scoudouc was built by the 24 resident families. This mission had long been served by priests from Memramcook and, later, by those from Saint-Anselme.
A new church was completed in 1910, three years after the arrival of the first parish priest. This church will be renovated to become the beautiful building that dominates the Scoudouc landscape and is a source of pride for all parishioners.
In 2009, the parish celebrated the 100th anniversary of the construction of this new church, as well as the 200th anniversary of the founding of the village of Scoudouc.
The 100th and 200th anniversary activities highlighted all the work accomplished in the past. But above all, they emphasized the fact that Scoudouc, after experiencing a fairly long period of decline, loss of institutions and businesses, is finally on the path to renewed growth with the expansion of the entire Shediac region and, especially, with the economic growth and development of Moncton and Dieppe.
It is hoped that this turnaround will be the harbinger of a continued and flourishing presence for the Christian community of Scoudouc.
