History
Established in 1862
First church in 1868
First parish priest: 1883
Around 1850, Father Georges Belcourt, a missionary to the Indigenous peoples of Manitoba and Minnesota for 32 years, came to Prince Edward Island where he began his work of colonization. He had heard about the beautiful wooded lands of Kent County. He took steps to help the Acadians acquire land in this region. Emigration to Saint-Paul intensified, especially during the years 1869 and 1870.
The first church was built in 1874 and became the sacristy of the new church, whose construction began in 1891 and was completed in 1894. During the night of January 29, 1925, this church burned down but was immediately rebuilt.
For the parish's centenary in 1983, several renovations were carried out on the church and the rectory. This is the church we admire today.
