History
Established around 1842
First church built in 1868
First parish priest: 1955
The first inhabitants settled in Saint-Norbert in 1842 in what was then called Louisbourg.
The current Saint-Norbert church was built in 1868. It was served by priests from surrounding parishes until the arrival of a resident priest in 1955, Father Désiré Melanson.
From 1976 onward, Saint-Norbert was served by the parish of Sainte-Marie.
The last Mass was celebrated in the Saint-Norbert church in August 2015. The parishioners were forced to close the doors due to lack of funds. Several statues and paintings were moved to neighboring churches, such as Sainte-Marie. With the support of the community and after renovations costing over $20,000, the former church has become "the children's star house", which welcomes young people in arts and crafts, theater and reading activities.
